Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2nd annual Positive Spin Ride this past Saturday and an even bigger thank you to all our sponsors and volunteers. The weather was perfect, the aid stations were well stocked, the riders were smiling (most of the time) and the beer was cold at the end...what more could we ask for! So thank you again for your support for the Canadian Mental Health Association and to help bring awareness to mental health. If you can think of anything that you feel will make this event better in future years please reach out to us as we would love your feedback! ...

This looks like darn near perfect weather for a really long bike ride on Saturday; 23 degrees and no wind! On-line registration closed last night but you can still sign up on the day of the event. This is a ride, not a race, so whether you are doing the 200km, 160km or 100km route it will be a good time. This is also not a timed event so if you signed up for the 200km and at 180km you decide you really need that beer you can peel off early. Or, if you mentally signed up for the 160km and you are feeling strong then join us on the 200km! This is all about having fun and raising awareness about Mental Health. See you Saturday! ...

Bring Cash! As you hopefully know by now there will be a Parking Lot Party @oldyalebrewing for us to enjoy after the Positive Spin Ride and the best part is the Chilliwack Firefighters Charitable Society will be firing up the BBQ with good grub by donation which will help support the Positive Spin Ride. Since we will all be hungry after the ride bring some cash to throw down for some BBQ'ed treats! Make it a family event, if your significant other is not riding tell them to head down for a little Yoga by donation offered up by @namastehikingco also in support of our Positive Spin Ride. The kids can sing and dance to some fine live tunes while we sip some of the Fraser Valleys finest beers! Don't forget our friends @giantlangley are also offering free tunes ups this week to registered riders so if your bike looks like this guys bike you may want to pay them a visit. We thank you all for the support. ...

Not every road is a dream road so don't forget why we are doing this ride! As stated by "Chief Ride Organizer" Ms. Lambert "Your commitment to this ride supports the Canadian Mental Health Association’s mission to create understanding, dispel the stigma and promote recovery associated with mental health issues." And for that we thank you supporters and participants. So when you roll out on Saturday remember why we are doing this but also remember it is a ride, not a race! It is not about achieving Strava KOM's and seeing how quickly you can drop your buddy from the pack, its about a good time and raising awareness for the many with mental health issues. www.positivespincycle.com ...

PARKING LOT PARTY!
@oldyalebrewing had such a great post yesterday we decided to plagiarize the whole thing below, your loss if you don't read it! Did we mention they also have one of the best Pale Ale's around - it is not so hoppy that its heavy but has enough hops that it is highly enjoyable all year round; if their pale ale was a cyclist is would be @petosagan - great at everything and always a crowd pleaser.

Sometimes on a long ride its tough to decide whether you want a sweet or savory treat and gels and Clifbars can only get you so far, in those cases a muffin is often a good choice, or some potato chips! We thank our friends from McDonalds across Chilliwack for donating muffins for our aid stations so our riders can be well fueled throughout the day during the June 23 Positive Spin Ride. While Chilliwack has a lot of flat farm roads you cant forget to bring your climbing legs to the Positive Spin Ride. While doing the 200km route last year we recorded almost 2500 meters of climbing on the day, a plus to that is that we also had lots of downhill time to recover. Don't want to tackle the 2500 meters of climbing then sign up for the 160km or 100km route and your ride will see a greater percentage of flat farm roads that are a true joy to ride. All length of courses for the Positive Spin Ride are doable and all of them have some short, sharp climbs - such as the grind into Columbia Valley or that last kicker over Chilliwack Mountain. If you are new to cycling and nervous about these climbs perhaps consider "upgrading" to some easier gearing that will allow you to spin up steep hills and save your legs and your knees. There is no shame in not smashing big gears and even Chris Froome rode a 34 front ring and a 32 rear cog in a stage of this years Giro; this allowed him to spin up in a high cadence while taking multiple puffs on an asthma inhaler 🙂 he even found time to pet a dinosaur. We look forward to seeing you on June 23 | www.positivespincycle.com | ...
